Review
This is a Spanish language film, so if you are not in the mood for subtitles or fluent in Spanish, probably not the best choice. I really enjoyed this movie. It is in the typical Latin American film style, film quality, ambient noise, etc. I think it is unfortunate that the movie did not spend more time discussing the broader implications the drug trade has on Colombia and its economy. But that having been said, Maria functions as an effective metaphor for the need the Colombian economy has for drugs. On the one hand it provides a better life for some and on the other hand how destructive it can be to Colombia and the outside world.
