Summary

Sin City is a black and white (with patches of color) world on the verge of destruction thanks to killing corruption and hot chicks. Based on Frank Miller’s comic of the same name, the movie is confusing yet crowd pleasing.

Review

To start, I know nothing about comics and really have no desire to learn. Sorry if I am offending you with what I write.

Directed by Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez, Sin City is an adaptation or compilation of about 5 of Miller’s separate comics of the same name. The only thing they have in common seems to be their setting and mild intertwining of characters. So not knowing anything about the comic itself, the characters or plot, I was pretty confused throughout the movie. None of it really made sense or had any back story or context, scenes were just happening on the screen. But I really didn’t care.

I didn’t care because this is one of the coolest movies i’ve even seen visual. Yes, it is predominantly in black and white, but there are select traces of color, like in eyes or a dress. The action and special effects are mind blowing. My favorite is where Marv, a huge brut, tomahawks a guy from behind in the crotch with an axe. Throught the movie, I just kept wondering ‘How’d they do that?’

Despite (intentional?) bad acting, and confusing time swtiches, this is an extremely entertaining movie. And although I left the theatre feeling like I was missing something (like the weird sexual relationship between Bruce Willis and Jessica Alba?) I just loved the action to much to second guess it. Maybe I should read the Sin City comic. Or maybe I should just watch the movie again.

Also Watch.
