Mumford (1999)
Mumford is a comedy movie by Lawrence Kasdan. The movie is all about feeling fake in your own life and wanting a second chance to be better. It is a love story with some comedy essence, but it feels old and its story is also not very exciting.
Mumford is a small town where the story begins. A man named Dr. Mumford comes to the town. He tells everyone that he is a psychologist. He opens his clinic and starts listen to people’s problems and gives simple advice to their problems. He became popular in town because he helped them to feel better about their problems.
But Dr. Mumford has a secret. He is not really a trained doctor. He is hiding from his past. One day, the people who trust him find out the truth. Sofie, a kind woman who is often tired and sick. Dr. Mumford falls in love with her.
The movie feels very clean and safe. Everything looks nice and perfect. The characters have small problems that can be solved very easily. Nothing feels deep or serious. It feels like a story we have already seen many times in different movies.
Loren Dean, who plays Dr. Mumford is good in this role but not very interesting. He is not very charming. Hope Davis (Sofie), is the best character of this movie. She feels real and natural.
Jason Lee, Zooey Deschanel play their roles perfectly. Other actors also appear in the film but they don’t add anything interesting to the main story of the movie.
My opinion
In my personal opinion Mumford is a good movie, but it is one time watch.
