Summary

Review
I never read these book as a child so I never knew what to expect going into this or the two movies that follow. However, I was absolutely blown away. The filmmaking by Peter Jackson is some of the best I’ve ever seen and the special effects are beyond amazing. Everything about this movie is great and I encourage everyone to watch it even without reading the rest of my review.
However, as I said, I never read the book so I didn’t know what to expect so each scene was a surprise and I was entralled in the plot, action and characters. The actors are flawless and are cast perfectly. Tolkien’s language is mastered and Jackson really made an effort to be as true to the original story as possible.
While I won’t give it away, I was at first annoyed at the ending and it left me saying, “That’s it?” As I left the theatre that day I wanted to see more and couldn’t wait for the sequal to be released. Even though I felt a little jipped, I was intrigued enough to go back and read all of the books. Upon completing the literary trilogy, I as even more satisfied with the ending of the first film because that is how the first book ends. I now give Jackson even more credit for staying true to the book, something that is rarely done in Hollywood.
The Fellowship of the Ring is just the start of one of the greatest film trilogies ever made and it is only knocked down half a beer because I am scoring it against the other two films. The Fellowship mainly provides character and plot backgrounds and sets the stage for the next two films in the series. Clocking in at around three hours, this film provides endless entertainment as long as your able to suspend your disbelief and let your mind wander to a far off fantasy land of hobbits, wizards and elves. And oh yea, be prepared to watch about seven more hours of this stuff because after you see The Fellowship, you’ll surely want to see the conclusion of the epic battle for Middle Earth.
