Summary

The one with the whales. You know.

Review

The biggest box-office grosser of all of the Star Trek films, this is certainly the funniest, if not best of the series with a lot of not at all stupid humor based on the crew’s travels back to San Francisco, 1986 in order to grab a couple of humpback whales to shut this giant alien probe that’s causing havoc on the Earth in the 23rd century. The story, as it were, is completely secondary to hilarity that ensues when Spock tries to curse, Kirk sells his antique reading glasses back to a dealer so McCoy can buy them for a gift in the future, etc, but some of the humor wears thin after a while and even the near-death of Chekov seems sort ot tacked on in order to spice up the proceedings.

Still, the special effects are terrific, everybody from the original magnificent seven gets a moment to shine and they genuinely seem to enjoy themselves on Nimoy’s sophomore effort as a director, and I’ll admit that the final reveal at the end of the movie makes this nerd’s heart swell every time he sees it. Yes, I have a girlfriend. Yes, she’s totally freaking hot.

Also Watch.
