Summary

Team America will stop at nothing to protect our homeland and rid the world of evil terrorists. Just because they are puppets doesn’t mean they cant kick ass.

Review

Trey Parker and Matt Stone, most famous for their work on South Park, have created another controversial film with Team America: World Police. It might be the most politically incorrect movie ever made but that’s the point. Team America is a special group of police that are in charge of policing the globe. No matter where the location, they’ll blow something up in order to do what they think is right.

This movie is very funny. It is a satire of the current world politics and does a great job at making fun of issues that people are either afraid to talk about or don’t talk about directly. I hate politics so I found most of the humor very laughable. But, if you were someone like Sean Penn (who appears in puppet form in the movie without his consent I’m sure), who takes world politics seriously and is offended by sophomoric, dirty humor then you might not like Team America.

But once again, that’s the point. Your not supposed to like Team America (the characters not the movie). They do everything the United States does in real life, just at greater degrees to prove the filmmakers message.

Most of all I was impressed by the puppetry, set design and technology used to create the film. Even though they are puppets, they do a great job of making them look as realistic as possible, even though you can obviously see the strings in most of the shots. What made me laugh the most was the original music created for the film. The team’s theme song is perfect.

There’s also a song about how bad Pearl Harbor and Ben Affleck are which we Reel Movie Guys can attest too. It may not be the funniest thing Parker and Stone have created, but it might be the most offensive and it’s great. Plus, who doesn’t want to see puppets make sweet love and vomit after a drinking binge? (Separate events, but it would be funny if they were together)
