Review
Flight of the Phoenix is a tale about a group of rag tag oil rig workers who discover themselves thrust together in an effort to stay alive. Their unflappable leader is no other than Captain Frank Towns (Dennis Quaid). His trusty sidekick is that American cinematic treasure (Tyrese Gibson). As pilots of the plane they assume control and responsible for wayward group.
The film is very predicatable. Personal battles threaten to undermine the unplanned expedition throughout the movie. Of course the ever ubiquitous desert bandits show up and provide some predictable but adequate drama.
In the end our hero is humbled by his own hubris and ends up being heroic in humility. The group wind up flying away aboard their self built vessel rising above the Gobi Desert. A good old fashioned Hollywood ending.
