Review
Apologies to our former Intern, whose review of this movie I accidentally nixed earlier this week. Since he was a big fan, I will try to recreate what I remember of his effort. You’ve probably seen the much talked about 1999 picture featuring raging insomniac Edward Norton and his alter-ego played by Brad Pitt, but the more times you see it, the better it gets. There are few films about which this can be said.
To sum it up without giving away too much, Norton’s character is fed up with his mundane life and comes home from a business trip to find his apartment burning down. He takes up residence with Tyler Durden, a bizarre soap salesman who he only recently befriended. It all starts with one question posed by Tyler: “How much can you know about yourself if you’ve never been in a fight?” From there, his entire outlook changes.
Blending dark comedy with amazing technical detail and deeper philosophical elements (not to mention Meat Loaf), Fight Club is enjoyable on many levels. Especially if you are the type of person with pent up rage against society and just dying for an outlet. Absurd as the premise is, to a degree, we can all relate. Just think twice before you get inspired to quit your job and going postal. By no means one of the best films ever, but certainly worth your time.
