Summary

A champion San Diego high school cheerleading squad captain discovers that her predecessor stole all their best routines from an inner-city Compton school and must scramble to create a new routine before the two rivals clash at this year’s championships.

Review

One can only take a movie about cheerleading so seriously.

However, there are some things to like about Bring It On, particularly the PG-13 style bikini car wash fundraiser and pajama party. Oh yeah! But seriously, the first time I watched this movie, I couldn’t turn it off. Not sure if that says more about the movie or the fact that I was bored and hung over with the remote on the other side of the room. But no matter. It’s fun enough to watch, with a believable enough premise, and the cheerleading moves are pretty dope.

If you’re looking for some semblance of plot outline, here you go. Torrance (Dunst) takes over as captain of a S.D. cheerleading squad that has won five straight titles. Not sure if those are state or national championships, but I’ll tell you what these girls can move! Trouble is brewing, though.

When the new girl in school who moved from L.A., Missy (Dushku), informs the Toros that their moves have been bogarted from a Compton squad, it’s up to Torrance to overcome the adversity and, well, bring it on at this year’s competition.

The opposing captain, Isis (Union) is a bit abrasive but comes to embrace the sexy, sassy, spunky, smoothly seductive Torrance and her Toros. When the final routines are unveiled, you’ll be on the edge of your seat. Well. maybe that’s a bit much. But I have certainly seen worse.

Also Watch.
