Summary

With a great career at a New York modeling agency and a bustling social life, Helen Harris seemingly has it all. The little world of the beautiful twenty something turns upside down, however, when her sister and brother-in-law are killed in a car crash and she is left to care for their three children.

Review

When Helen, a young career woman and socialite, realizes she has been named guardian of her deceased sister’s three children (Audrey, 15, Henry, 10, Sarah, 5), all kinds of funny moments ensue. Most of said moments, shockingly, result from her attempts to raise the kids (which she has no idea how to do) and maintain her current lifestyle! It’s a tad predictable, and a little too drawn out, but this film has some redeeming features that make it worth sitting through if you want to earn brownie points when your significant other suggests watching it.

Hudson is pretty. The children are well-portrayed, in light of their parents’ tragic death, and are cute without being annoying. Helen’s chemistry with both her older sister, played by Joan Cusack, and the pastor administrator at the kids’ new school (Corbett), are heartwarming but real. The film tackles some weighty issues but still remains true to what it is a light romantic comedy. Nothing substantial, but nicely done and entertaining. It ties up a little too nicely in the end, but the viewer doesn’t feel cheated since the overall body of work was decent.
