Review
An aspiring musician begins his career with a great deal of promise. He meets another aspiring singer shockingly, a female named Apollonia who becomes his love interest and discovers that fame and fortune alone are not the only things he needs. What follows is a story of love, redemption, heartbreak, and glory, and is not to be missed by any film buff.
Oh come on. It’s Prince! While his soundtrack to the film has some great tracks and has surprisingly stood the test of time, it’s hard to take any portion of the film seriously.
There are people who can do the music acting thing, and the man who changed his name to an unpronouncable symbol in the ’90s is just not one of them. From the costumes to the dialogue to the overly simplistic plot, it’s all cause for great laughter of the entirely unintended sort.
This is what it sounds like… when doves cry (tears of joy, from laughing too hard). Sorry.
