Summary

The Dude gets involved in a sticky situation when his identity is mistaken for a famous philanthropist. C’mon man, The Dude just wants to bowl and get his rug back.

Review

I love The Dude. He is one of my favorite characters of all time. He has inspired me to bowl, drink white russians (also known as caucasians), and be the laziest piece on earth. The movie involves The Dude (Jeff Bridges) into a ransom plot but it turns out to be a case of mistaken identity. Once this is understood, he is still forced to be apart of the kidnapping scheme.

Most of the great humor comes from The Dude’s stoner pacifist attitude and interactions with other’s throughout the movie, namely his best friend Walter (John Goodman). The Cohen Brothers do an excellent job of understating this film and not going overboard on some of the themes and comic devices.

However, I have found that I don’t laugh as hard at some of the jokes now as I did when the movie first came out. And I really don’t like when annoying people quote The Dude or Walter it’s not funny and makes me like the original movie less. It will always be a favorite of mine, but like many movies, I have to be in a certain mood to watch it.

Also Watch.
